MINI-ROOK / BUILD LOG 036

The Raven Spreads His Wings

A transparent Windows overlay, with flight refinement still open

TRANSPARENCY PASS · FLIGHT POLISH PENDING. Adapted from the project development record BUILD_LOG_036.md. Results describe the recorded checkpoint; publishing this article adds no new runtime test.

TECHNICAL CHECKPOINT

What this build actually records.

Stack and method
Windows color key · drawn raven geometry · longer curved flight path
Recorded progress
Compilation/static checks pass; creator confirms real-desktop transparent background.
Still open at this checkpoint
Flight/landing in this specific build unverified; no canonical illustrated sprites, per-pixel alpha or multi-monitor flight.

Software development on an existing workstation. This entry does not establish a new robot, custom hardware build or autonomous publishing capability.

01 / BUILD LOG 036

The original development record

The new opt-in rooks_perch_transparent.py is a separate Rook's Perch prototype that uses a Windows transparent-color key to remove the opaque rectangular Tkinter window background. The old flight and desktop scripts remain unchanged. The animated raven is still rendered as drawn geometry; its main body, eyes, feathers, and wings appear without the opaque backing wherever Windows supports the color key. The lower status strip has been removed and status appears in the context menu instead.

A manual Take flight! action moves the window on a longer screen-bounded curved path with more noticeable wing motion, while optional occasional flights remain off by default. Manual dragging interrupts flight; clicking still opens The Nest; right-click still exposes animation and exit controls. These are local desktop interactions only.

Verified on Fury: Python compilation PASS; static checks confirm the transparent-color call, flight loop and context menu are present. The creator directly confirmed on Fury that the opaque rectangle is gone. Transparent-background rendering therefore passes the real-desktop acceptance check. Flight interaction and landing polish in this specific transparent build have not been separately confirmed. This phase does not yet include canonical illustrated sprites, per-pixel alpha or multi-monitor-aware flight.

Status: TRANSPARENCY ACCEPTANCE PASS — flight and animation polish pending. Chapter VIII — The Nest.
