MINI-ROOK / BUILD LOG 035
The Raven Learns to Fly
A first curved desktop flight with limited movement acceptance
TECHNICAL CHECKPOINT
What this build actually records.
- Stack and method
- Tk window movement · curved arc · primary-screen bounds · drag interrupt
- Recorded progress
- Compilation/static controls pass; creator observes a first flight moving approximately five centimeters.
- Still open at this checkpoint
- Not a production multi-monitor engine; landing, interaction polish and optional automatic-flight behavior unverified.
Software development on an existing workstation. This entry does not establish a new robot, custom hardware build or autonomous publishing capability.
TEST STATUS / SEPARATE FROM THE ORIGINAL RECORD
What later checks established.
Compilation/static controls pass; creator observes a first flight moving approximately five centimeters.
Still open: Not a production multi-monitor engine; landing, interaction polish and optional automatic-flight behavior unverified.
01 / BUILD LOG 035
The original development record
A separately runnable rooks_perch_flight.py builds on the prior accepted and working Rook's Perch prototypes. The new Take flight! context-menu action moves the entire small always-on-top desktop window across the screen along a smoothed curved arc, with fast wing motion while in flight and a return to idle on landing. Bounds are clamped to the visible primary screen area using the current Tk screen dimensions. Manual dragging interrupts a flight. The user may opt into occasional automatic flights, disabled by default to minimize interruption, and pause animation from the existing menu. Click still opens The Nest; right-click still exposes controls and exit.
This is an early flight-motion implementation with a stylized code-drawn character, not final canonical sprites or a production-grade multi-monitor movement engine. Window crossing, collisions with other windows, animation smoothness, interaction, and behavior on a real desktop require user acceptance. Existing rooks_perch.py, rooks_perch_live.py and rooks_perch_motion.py remain untouched.
Verified on Fury: Python syntax PASS; static flight loop and context-menu controls PASS. The creator confirmed the first real desktop flight: invoking Take flight moved Mini-Rook across the screen by approximately five centimeters. This validates the movement path in actual use, but does not establish full acceptance of landing polish, multi-monitor movement or the optional autonomous flight behavior.
Status: FIRST FLIGHT ACCEPTANCE PASS — limited scope; further animation and movement refinement pending. Chapter VIII — The Nest.
