MINI-ROOK / BUILD LOG 008

Rewrite with Rook. Fix the bridge workflow.

Growth v0.4, local version history and an asynchronous tool path

REWRITE MECHANICS OBSERVED · EXPERIMENTAL. Adapted from the project development record BUILD_LOG_008.md. Results describe the recorded checkpoint; publishing this article adds no new runtime test.

TECHNICAL CHECKPOINT

What this build actually records.

Stack and method
Python · JavaScript · asynchronous bridge processes · version history
Recorded progress
Python/JavaScript syntax checks; later human rewrite/history/reset observation.
Still open at this checkpoint
Final claim-safety retest and factual reliability; no publishing integration.

Software development on an existing workstation. This entry does not establish a new robot, custom hardware build or autonomous publishing capability.

TEST STATUS / SEPARATE FROM THE ORIGINAL RECORD

What later checks established.

The originally pending UI/model test was later exercised: Log 009 observed rewrite/history/reset mechanics, but the output changed CharacterForge into a desktop cleaner. Log 010 then records a human retest that kept the product identity. Syntax success and working controls do not establish factual reliability.

Still open: The newest claim-safety and clean-copy changes still await an end-to-end retest. Product facts and destination links require human verification.

01 / BUILD LOG 008

The original development record

The developer tool bridge showed an odd pattern: basic PowerShell commands worked, but synchronous calls to the Python launcher repeatedly timed out. We verified that the same commands run correctly using the bridge's existing asynchronous `start_process` and `process_status` features. No extra permissions or bridge upgrade were required. Python syntax checks returned EXIT=0, and the JavaScript syntax check returned JS_EXIT=0.

We also implemented a first experimental Growth v0.4 upgrade: Rewrite with Rook. A saved draft can be rewritten on demand using feedback. Existing text is preserved in local version history, and any rewrite resets approval to draft. Nothing is automatically scheduled or posted.

These code changes have passed syntax/import checks but have not yet completed a browser/UI and model rewrite end-to-end smoke test. The Quality Gate is still heuristic and does not establish truth; factual claims must be checked before publication.

Next acceptance test: restart Mini-Rook, rewrite a stored Growth draft, confirm previous text appears in Version History, and confirm approval is cleared. An authenticated publishing integration remains out of scope.
