MINI-ROOK / BUILD LOG 030

The Raven Takes Flight: Security Preflight

A local Host-header boundary before remote access

LOCAL PREFLIGHT PASS · NOT REMOTE-READY. Adapted from the project development record BUILD_LOG_030.md. Results describe the recorded checkpoint; publishing this article adds no new runtime test.

TECHNICAL CHECKPOINT

What this build actually records.

Stack and method
Loopback binding · trusted Host authorities · limited security readiness
Recorded progress
Syntax, accepted localhost and rejected external/wrong-port Host checks pass; creator observes live readiness flags disabled.
Still open at this checkpoint
This is not a penetration test or remote authentication pass. Later gateway/mobile evidence is recorded separately in Log 031.

Software development on an existing workstation. This entry does not establish a new robot, custom hardware build or autonomous publishing capability.

What later checks established.

01 / BUILD LOG 030

The original development record

The first step toward shared access from Fury, Realitycore and mobile devices is an explicit boundary, not an exposed port. Mini-Rook continues to bind only to 127.0.0.1, and its new remote_access.py policy rejects untrusted HTTP Host headers on GET and POST requests. Accepted authorities are the expected local hostnames on the configured port. The application also exposes a limited /api/security/readiness status documenting that remote access, proxy authentication and network admission are not yet configured.

This preflight does NOT provide mobile connectivity or authentication. No Tailscale serve/funnel command, Windows Firewall change, public listener, proxy or token storage has been introduced. The next security milestone must implement a properly authenticated entry point and test it separately before any remote device is allowed to access drafts and actions.

Verified: Python syntax PASS, existing JavaScript syntax PASS, positive localhost authority checks PASS, forged/external/wrong-port Host rejection tests PASS, readiness reports remote clients disabled. The creator restarted the server and confirmed the live /api/security/readiness HTTP response: phase 030_preflight, loopback_only, remote_access_enabled false, authentication_enabled false, tailscale_proxy_configured false and ready_for_remote_clients false. The HTTP readiness smoke test PASS does not constitute a network penetration test or verified remote authentication.

Status: READY TO PUBLISH — LOCAL PREFLIGHT ACCEPTANCE PASS; NOT REMOTE-READY. Chapter VIII — The Nest.
